What's a good SSD drive for my laptop?
Looking to replace my HD in my laptop as it is dying, so am thinking about getting an SSD drive. How much faster are they than a regular laptop drive? Do they consume less power? What are some good brands. Thanx.

SSD drives used to suck as they had lots of "stuttering" issues, but they are a lot better now.
They are very fast, you are looking at very fast response rates and also high transfer rates. I am talking milisecond times here and transfer rates over 100mbs (sustained).
They do consumer less power but honestly you will only get a few minutes extra of running time.
Right now the best brand around in Australia is the G.Skill Falcon IMHO.
Other good brands are Intel and Corsair.
No matter which brand you pick you will be paying a lot compared to a normal laptop hard drive.
64gb SSD drives go from around $230 upwards, 128gb drives cost around $450.
They way things are going they will continue to get cheaper and bigger, just like normal hard drives do.
If you are after a real speed boost and are prepared to pay, I highly recommend one as they make your OS so much snappier. Just be sure to get one of the later generations one (like the GSkill Falcon) which does not have some of the stuttering issues that the early SSDs had.
