Old macintoshs worth buying?
Hi I have a mate who runs a design agency and he is upgrading his computers, he has a lot of older macs, they are g4s and g5s mostly. I'm not much of a mac man but i'd like to play with Mac OSX at least. Are these old models worth it if I can get them cheap? Or should I spend a bit more and get one of the Intel models?

Well if you can get them cheap enough then if they aren't fast enough you can always use them as doorstops or shooting targets :)

Apple has stopped updating Mac OSX for PowerPC computers (G4s, G5s) so if yoou want to run the latest version of Mac OS X you are better getting an Intel (x86) mac.
That said a g5 mac is still reasonably fast, especially if it is a later model. I guess it depends on how much you can spend and if you just want to play around with it or you are looking for a long term workhorse. Their will be some life in the old macs for many years but eventually you will find that the lastest software doesnt come in a PowerPC version. But if you can get one really cheap it will help you familarise yourself with Mac OSX and you can always buy an Intel macintosh later.
